"Ye Khel Kya Hai"


मिरे मुख़ालिफ़ ने चाल चल दी है

और अब

मेरी चाल के इंतिज़ार में है

मगर मैं कब से

सफ़ेद-ख़ानों

सियाह-ख़ानों में रक्खे

काले सफ़ेद मोहरों को देखता हूँ

मैं सोचता हूँ

ये मोहरे क्या हैं

अगर मैं समझूँ

के ये जो मोहरे हैं

सिर्फ़ लकड़ी के हैं खिलौने

तो जीतना क्या है हारना क्या

न ये ज़रूरी

न वो अहम है

अगर ख़ुशी है न जीतने की

न हारने का ही कोई ग़म है

तो खेल क्या है

मैं सोचता हूँ

जो खेलना है

तो अपने दिल में यक़ीन कर लूँ

ये मोहरे सच-मुच के बादशाह ओ वज़ीर

सच-मुच के हैं प्यादे

और इन के आगे है

दुश्मनों की वो फ़ौज

रखती है जो कि मुझ को तबाह करने के

सारे मंसूबे

सब इरादे

मगर ऐसा जो मान भी लूँ

तो सोचता हूँ

ये खेल कब है

ये जंग है जिस को जीतना है

ये जंग है जिस में सब है जाएज़

कोई ये कहता है जैसे मुझ से

ये जंग भी है

ये खेल भी है

ये जंग है पर खिलाड़ियों की

ये खेल है जंग की तरह का

मैं सोचता हूँ

जो खेल है

इस में इस तरह का उसूल क्यूँ है

कि कोई मोहरा रहे कि जाए

मगर जो है बादशाह

उस पर कभी कोई आँच भी न आए

वज़ीर ही को है बस इजाज़त

कि जिस तरफ़ भी वो चाहे जाए

मैं सोचता हूँ

जो खेल है

इस में इस तरह उसूल क्यूँ है

पियादा जो अपने घर से निकले

पलट के वापस न जाने पाए

मैं सोचता हूँ

अगर यही है उसूल

तो फिर उसूल क्या है

अगर यही है ये खेल

तो फिर ये खेल क्या है

मैं इन सवालों से जाने कब से उलझ रहा हूँ

मिरे मुख़ालिफ़ ने चाल चल दी है

और अब मेरी चाल के इंतिज़ार में है |

This poem at first read looks like a poem about a game of Chess. In the game of chess, there are 2 players. In this poem, the poet says my opponent already took his/her turn now they are waiting for my turn.

मगर मैं कब से

सफ़ेद-ख़ानों

सियाह-ख़ानों
में रक्खे

काले सफ़ेद मोहरों को देखता हूँ

मैं सोचता हूँ

ये मोहरे क्या हैं |

White and Black color is the color of the chessboard.

But here 'Black and White' represent Evil and Good or also we can say it represents two types of human personality. 'Mohare' represents a normal human.

अगर मैं समझूँ

के ये जो मोहरे हैं

सिर्फ़ लकड़ी के हैं खिलौने


तो जीतना क्या है हारना क्या

न ये ज़रूरी

न वो अहम है |

At first sight, it looks like a game winning and defeating are not as much as important. For

Here the meaning of 'Lakadike Khilone' this word is for 'Mohare'. That we can say a person is alive but their presence is like a lifeless thing.

अगर ख़ुशी है न जीतने की

हारने का ही कोई ग़म है |

तो खेल क्या है |

It looks like there is no happiness about winning nor any sadness about defeating.

A human who is become like a 'Lakadi' (wood) for those for nothing is important. They don't care what is wrong happening around them.

मैं सोचता हूँ

जो खेलना है

तो अपने दिल में यक़ीन कर लूँ

ये मोहरे सच-मुच के बादशाह ओ वज़ीर


सच-मुच के हैं प्यादे

Here if a normal human being decided them selves as a 'Badasah' (king) and Wazir ( वह जो बादशाह को रियासत के प्रबंध में सलाह या सहायता दे। मंत्री, अमात्य, दीवान). If a person belive in his/her own self they can fight against bad idology.

और इन के आगे है

दुश्मनों की वो फ़ौज

रखती है जो कि मुझ को तबाह करने
के

सारे मंसूबे

सब इरादे

मगर ऐसा जो मान भी लूँ

तो सोचता हूँ

Here Dushman (Enemy) is those who are in a power and not allowed to act and speak againstthemselvess.

ये खेल कब है

ये जंग है जिस को जीतना है |

ये जंग है जिस में सब है जाएज़

कोई ये कहता है जैसे मुझ से

ये जंग भी है |

ये खेल भी है |


'Zang'(Battle) for whom they are not in power they try to stay against the power and in a fever of truth. 'Khel' (Game) for those who are in power for them this type of people is like a PAWN.

(Pawn First things first - this piece is pronounced P-A-W-N. Not prawn. The pawn is the foot soldier – it can only move one space at a time (except for the beginning where it can move two spaces) and it can’t move backward.)

मैं सोचता हूँ

जो खेल है

इस में इस तरह का उसूल क्यूँ है

कि कोई मोहरा रहे कि जाए


मगर जो है बादशाह

उस पर कभी कोई आँच भी न आए


वज़ीर ही को है बस इजाज़त

कि जिस तरफ़ भी वो चाहे जाए |


It looks like a rule of Chess, but it's a political satire.

In a monarchy, a king is always saved by PAWN. and they use by the king for their selfish purpose. In a democracy some people on the hierarchy they are behaving like that.

मैं सोचता हूँ

जो खेल है

इस में इस तरह उसूल क्यूँ है

पियादा जो अपने घर से निकले

पलट के वापस न जाने पाए

मैं सोचता हूँ

अगर यही है उसूल

तो फिर उसूल क्या है


अगर यही है ये खेल

तो फिर ये खेल क्या है |

Sometimes the rule is only for those who are not in power. But those who are in power don't follow any rules.

This is a satire, a government, and those who are in power do things for the sake of their own profit and benefit.

And those who are not n power if they try to SAY or do something against them always face big problems and may ruin their lives.

मैं इन सवालों से जाने कब से उलझ रहा हूँ

मिरे मुख़ालिफ़ ने चाल चल दी है

और अब मेरी चाल के इंतिज़ार में है |


A person is thinking about this all the brutal things of the contemporary situation. If he/she takes any step again their opponent (those who are in power), the result may defeat his/her.

Metaphor :

Chess is a metaphor.

Personification :

'Mohare' - Human

'Pyada'(Pawn) - A normal person who is against power.

Symbol :

Black and White: Evil and Good, Personality type

Overall meaning:

This is a satirical poem. Those who are in a power make a satire of them and also those who blindly follow them.


Interpretation on "Breath"

Patience

This blog is in response to the Interpretation challenge on the play "Breath" by Samuel Beckett.

I gave a title to my play "patience".

This play is based on the current scenario of competitive exams. many times paper leaks and its effect a lot to the life of youth and their family as well as the nation.

I've tried to add many symbols in this play that directly or indirectly represent the situation. In this play, I've used things that are easily available surrounding me.

Absurd :

In literature, the absurd often takes the form of bizarre or surreal scenarios and events and emphasizes the human struggle to find meaning and purpose in an inherently meaningless world.

Meaninglessness :

The concept of meaninglessness is central to the philosophy of existentialism, which posits that life has no inherent meaning and that individuals must create their own meaning and purpose through their experiences, choices, and relationships. In this view, meaninglessness can lead to feelings of anxiety and despair, but it can also be seen as an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. The search for meaning in a meaningless world is a common theme in literature, philosophy, and the arts.

Robert Frost : 

Robert Frost (1874-1963) was an American poet and playwright. He is considered one of the most prominent and well-known poets of the 20th century and is recognized for his realist style and use of rural settings and traditional forms in his poetry. He won four Pulitzer Prizes for poetry and is best known for works such as "The Road Not Taken," "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening," and "Mending Wall." Frost's works often explore universal themes of life, death, and the human experience, and his accessible style has made his poems widely read and studied.

Robert Frost was born in San Francisco, California in 1874. His family moved to Lawrence, Massachusetts when he was 11 years old. He attended Dartmouth College but dropped out after only a few months. He worked various jobs, including teaching and journalism, before moving to England in 1912 to focus on his writing.

In England, Frost met and was influenced by other contemporary poets, including Rupert Brooke and Edward Thomas. He published his first book of poetry, "A Boy's Will," in 1913, and it was well received by critics. He returned to the United States in 1915 and continued to write and publish poetry, eventually becoming one of America's most famous poets.

Frost was married to Elinor Miriam White, with whom he had six children. He was awarded four Pulitzer Prizes for poetry and was also appointed Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1958. He died in Boston in 1963 at the age of 88. Throughout his life, Frost was known for his dry wit and practical, down-to-earth approach to life and literature, which is reflected in his poetry.
